The new development trend of shipbuilding industry put forward higher requirements to the hull processing equipment. Hull plate forming hydraulic press is a kind of cold plate forming equipment widely used in the construction of ship body. In view of the shortcomings in performance and reliability of the first generation shipbuilding movable and rotary head hydraulic press (shipbuilding hydraulic press), this paper introduced robust design method in the structure design of movable and rotary head hydraulic press, to further improve the strength, stiffness and performance of the new generation of shipbuilding hydraulic press.The main contents of this article are as follows:1) Current status of the hull plate forming hydraulic press, robust design theory and its application, and hydraulic press design method were investigated. The research contents and significance of this paper were brought forward.2) The general design process of hydraulic press is described, the basic principles of robust design and related technologies are presented, and the application approach of robust design method in the design process of hydraulic press is discussed.3) According to the needs of users and hull plate forming process, the structure type of shipbuilding hydraulic press machine is determined. The overall solution of the large six axis movable and rotary head hydraulic press equipment sets is described, including the composition of the equipment sets, the overall scheme of the machine structure, the hydraulic system and the electrical system.4) The preliminary design and strength verification of the main cylinder for hydraulic press were made according to conventional design methods. The preliminary design results of the main cylinder components are simulation with finite element analysis method, and structure improvements were carried out based on the simulating results.Based on orthogonal experiment and finite element simulation, the approximate model for the stress and deformation of main cylinder with structure variables was fitted out, And then taking the fatigue life and the quality of the main cylinder as objective functions, strength and stiffness as constraints, the variance robust optimization model is established and solved, and the final results of the robust design is verificated. 5) After analysising working principle and functional requirements of the automatic clamping device for rotary press head, robust design of the clamping device disc spring was made. Disc spring computing theories are relatively mature, so formulas in the manual can be directly used in calculation. Robust optimization model of disc spring is built with the clamping force as objective function and the fatigue reliabilitys as constraints, and robust design solution has been well done. The robust optimization result has greatly improved the performance and reliability of the disk spring.
