Urgent need of a reliable remote automatic meter reading system to replace the existing manual meter reading.This article describes the development of and demand meter reading system designed for the rural environment of a remote automatic meter reading system. China is currently in use in the automatic meter reading system is mainly used in urban residential areas or large industrial and mining enterprises, specifically applied to small rural environment. China's rural environment is different from the urban environment, inadequate infrastructure, lack of unified planning and construction, the previous remote meter reading system is difficult to play a role in the rural environment. This paper analyzes the unique environment of rural areas and conditions for the weak infrastructure and construction planning difficult characteristics, proposed power line carrier technology, RS-485 bus technology as the underlying hardware means of communication. This paper analyzes the merits of the communication program, focusing on the power line carrier communication technology features, the use of the environment, implementation method, usage and so on.The design of the hardware components in order from top to bottom is the control of the main station, concentrators, collectors and the necessary communication channels. Collector meter data collection will be up multiple users, in this layer using the RS-485 bus as a means of communication, this technology application early, technology is mature, popular and high reliable communication. Uploaded to the concentrator collector, this layer using power line carrier communications, power line carrier technology to power lines as a direct communication channel, no additional construction.
