As the main content of planning and designing of production system, it is obvious that facility layout is very important for maintenance costs of facility, staff security, capital operation and on-site management. This paper begins with the development status of facility layout, analyses development at home and abroad of facility layout. Besides that, according to combination with the on-site assessment of the Factory H, this thesis lays stress on the research of improving the facility layout and material transporting channel of heavy machinery workshop,The improvement of material transport channel is associated with the improvement of facility layout. The beginning of this paper describes the theory and enhanced principle of material transport channel system and facility layout. It analyzes the logistics and non-logistic relations of productive process in machine workshop according to the existing facility layout insufficient and complexity material transport channel system by studying machine workshop's current situation. According to the features of machine workshop in heavy machinery, it gives out the improvements method of the layout principles (process layout principle, product layout principle) for these two typical machines and equipments. After that, to achieving a balance of logistics, reducing the following problems like circuitous and inefficient transport, logistic disorders and other latent problems caused by long transportation lines, it adjusts the relative positions of operating units, redistributes machine shop facilities and redesigns logistics routes. At last, it takes advantage of the AHP (Analytic?Hierarchy?Process) to determine the optimal layout and the final improvement of material transport channel, then to draw the final drawing to be analyzed.This paper proposes the improvement method from the perspective of logistics. Complying with the activity sequences of three products (rotary distributor, winches, slewing gear), it focuses on the circuitous logistics and field waste. To ensure a reasonable connection of each process, it requires not only the process confirmation of each product, but also the enhanced logistic line. In addition, it also draws the three-dimensional map of the machine workshop with three-dimensional drawing software, which can make observer observes the machine shop in an all-round way and obtain the optimal improvements of facility layout of the machine shop and logistic handling line.
