The jib is the key part of the jib-crane and analysing its mechanical performance is one of the contents which productive enterprises and users concern a lot. Building the three-dimensional model of the jib using traditional methods is time-consuming, laborious and inefficient because of its complex structure and the combination of its different lengths.In response to the problems above, the paper takes the YTQU160 hydraulic crawler crane as the studing object. And according to the simplified theory for the model of the structural mechanics, the connection of the jib root, sections of the jib, the top of the jib and tie rods, the tie rods and the support are articulated, and articulated connection is anologed in the software of ANSYS using the way of joint coupling. And the weld between the main chord and the web is simplified to analog using sharing point by Beam and Shell element. When finishingn the modeling, analysis and calculate the jib with different lengths. Then, optimize the section of the jib and link when taking the smallest volumet as the objective function, taking the strength, rigidity and etc.as the constraint condition. After that, develop SolidWorks secondly using VB language and complete the parametric modeling of the jib. And finally, read the ANSYS optimal parameters on the ANSYS data interface and automatically modeling and assembly in the environment of SolidWorks.Through calculating and analysis, the maximum stress value, the location of maximum stress, the changing trend diagram of the stress of the main chord on the altitude of the jib can be obtained.Calculate jibs with different lengths through changing parameters of the command stream. Then make a contrast of the changing trend of the stress of the main chord with different lengths. Reasonable designing variables can be obtained after optimal calculation and the optimal results make the weight of the jib on the crane lightened.Finally, take the system of the the YTQU160 hydraulic crawler crane as an example and then the feasibility of the parameterized modelling and assembly in the enviomment of solidworks is verified.
