Crawler crane is a lifting device widely used in the field of national economy. The jib is the key part of the jib-crane and analysing its mechanical performance is one of the contents which productive enterprises and users concern a lot. Building the three-dimensional model of the jib using traditional methods is time-consuming, laborious and inefficient because of its complex structure and the combination of its different lengths. It plays a role of great significance when optimizing performance while reducing the weight of crane boom for it can play a lower production cost, save resources.The paper takes the YTQU160hydraulic crawler crane as the studying object. And according to the simplified theory for the model of the structural mechanics, the connection of the jib root, sections of the jib, the top of the jib and tie rods, the tie rods and the bracket of A-type are articulated. And develop a parametric design system of jib with SolidWorks, ANSYS software and Visual Basic high-level language as a tool. On this basis, different arms of lengths were calculated respectively; then the boom section and bar section is optimized with the smallest objective function, strength, stiffness and other conditions as constraints; Read the ANSYS optimization parameter data interface then the user can enter the basic parameters required to achieve boom in the SolidWorks environment and the automatic re-modeling and assembly of the three-dimensional model after optimal design.The development of the system would develop the generating efficiency of jibs and shorten the design cycle.Also the optimal design of the jibs is done through the use of ANSYS software of computer-aided analysis of the structure.And check for strength, stiffness and stability using the conventional theory and confirmed the rationality of optimization and reduce weight of booms.
