China enjoys vast land area and abundant natural resources which provide her with obvious geographic advantages. With the rapid social and economic growth China is currently going through, shipping and transportation needs are fast increasing. However, due to the high cost of air and highway shipping and transportation, the railways have become the best choice. This is largely due in part to the advantages of large freight and passenger capacities, higher efficiency, greater safety, and lower cost of freight and heavy haul passenger trains. In order to improve operating efficiency, the integration of informationalization and smart systems has become the tip of the spear in high speed rail development. However, due to the slow development of the scheduling management systems and programs, capable professionals are bogged down by relatively primitive methods of operation resulting in operating inefficiencies, human error, staffing inefficiencies or overstaffing, large volumes of repetitious tasks, and communication difficulties which in turn lead to the inability to uniformly manage operations. These issues manifest mostly in the large technical zone station, thus the necessity for integration of smart systems into the shunting process becomes all the more apparent. This paper focuses on the research and study of the FZJ-CTC system, CIPS system, SAM system and regional interlocking system as a basic foundation to analyze the advantages of each above-mentioned system and methods of shunting. With improving the present shunting system and management model in mind, the primary aim is to produce a new automated system which will theoretically resolve problems with shunting conflicts and train conflicts, thus raising the operating efficiency. This will effectuate most of CIPS's functions along with lower costs, achieving staff cuts simultaneously with increased efficiency. The method of research discussed in this paper breaks down shunting operations into the automated generation of shunting operations planning, automated executing and automated tracking. The automated generation of shunting operations planning is based on the information reported of indeed pre-train, combined with the existing station train situation, the system automatically generates shunting algorithm notice. The importance of shunting plan automatic implementation lies in resolving the trains and shunting, shunting and shunting route in the routing instructions in time and space on the conflict; section through the map into the basic unit of thought to node, the station plans into a directed acyclic graph model, through Breadth first search method to find the best route, and then proposed algorithm, the operation plan of each hook to make intelligent adjustments, making full use of all available resources, all the while integrating automated tracking, achieving the goal of automated shunting. After evaluation, following the realistic testing in a controlled environment, the goal has been mostly accomplished. The shortcomings and insufficiencies of the system have been analyzed and a reasonable outlook for its future development has been drawn up.
