In contemporary era, rail transport gets a significant position, which accompanies by rapid growth of global economy, in national economic development day by day. In "Operation safety and command system via railway communication signal", that train location technology becomes a critical link of railway transportation industry. This technique is all about acquiring location of train (shunting) accurately and in time, also is the assurance of the safety and effectivity of train (shunting). Railway transportation develops along the direction of high speed, convenience, comfortable, at the meantime, demands higher accuracy to train (shunting) location technology.In this Thesis, basis on the current development of the railway industry, focusing on the shunting locomotive security system based on GPS positioning technology. The main work is completed as follows:(1) Analysis of the current development and application of current research vehicle positioning system, GPS global positioning system and the principle of error analysis and map-matching algorithms are discussed; It gives a concise review and analyze to technological principle, error analyze and map matching algorithm of GPS global location system.(2) On the basis of technological principal of GPS global location system, it analyzes the requirements of our railway marshalling station derived from the practical application of GPS location shunting locomotive security protection system. The following study, is the general design of the system, which includes its overall architecture and workflow, according to the demand and existing infrastructure of marshalling station.(3) After the interpretation of overall designations, it discusses details design and specific realization of the system. The whole discussion conclude departmental hardware configurations, initial location algorithm of software during the system is running, and location tracking algorithm.(4) Following all these theoretical investigations, combining the work-real circumstances, it represents the efficiency of practical application of shunting locomotive security shield system on the basis of GPS location system on rail marshalling station shunting locomotive facilities, then studies and discuss the practical result and effect of the system on actual working environment. At the end of the paper, it positively discusses and studies how to apply the system practically accompanied by current conditions of our rail marshalling station.In order to promote the immediacy of information feedback in train location system, also to minimize information error, the development and the appliance of train (shunting) control system, whose objective is the realization of its "information" and "intelligence", are launched all over the globe.
