The main purpose of this dissertation is to solve the problems that the shunting locomotives in most marshalling stations with no record or no supervision in day-to-day operations causes the inefficient use of the shunting locomotives, and the behindhand method of the checking the station's operating standards causes inaccurate data.First, it discusses the technical and economic feasibility for the shunting monitoring system to use DGPS technology. On the basis of inheriting the achievements of results, it introduces the GPS, RFID, and other related railway technology. The market demand of this system is finally set down through investigation and research concerning its potential users and available similar products.Subsequently, it presents the design of DGPS-based shunting monitoring system, including design objectives and principle, system software/hardware and required environment, etc. The system hardware structure consists of center monitoring system, DGPS base station, DGPS mobile station and GPS mobile handset. On this basis, this dissertation designs the software system which consists of the data-processing module, the central processing module and the functional modules, and realizes GPS positioning data collection and storage, map matching, operation matching and alarm functions theoretically. After explaining the system's data structure and data flow diagram, this dissertation analyses the key issues of system wireless communication mode, conversion from CAD station map to electronic map, and options of electronic map control.
