In recent years, low-voltage Automatic Meter Reading disseminates widely throughout the nation. Out of the cost requirements and convenience of the project implementation, low-voltage PLC is usually used for the downside communication of the meter reading. However, since the power lines are affected by power fluctuations and power load, PLC meter reading is not stable enough, or does not work under certain circumstances. Therefore, a suitable meter reading means of communication is urgently needed to make up the shortfall of the PLC on the application of meter reading. This paper presents a micro-power wireless ad hoc network-based meter reading program. The micro-power wireless ad-hoc network features self-organizing, self-healing, multi-hop routing, robust network, faster communication speed, more effective real-timing and easier construction without additional laying cables or limited communication caused by the power grid nature. And the meter reading program can be rapidly implemented in complex electrical environment. This paper focuses on the research and design of meter reading terminal (concentrator) and micro-power wireless ad hoc network communication module, which can be applied for centralized low voltage metering reading. The concentrator uses ARM9microprocessor AT91SAM9260and embedded operating system Linux2.6. The terminal's circuit, low-level software migration and application software is designed in accordance with the idea of platform and modularization.Viewing from the current application situation, the meter reading terminal based on the program is operating stably and reliably with high success rate of metering reading, achieving the desired effect and function requirements. Featuring strong scalability and low power consumption, the micro-power wireless networking communication module can be extended in application to the water, gas and heat meter data transmission after slight software modification.
