With the development of smart grid worldwide, a meter reading revolution iscoming. A new electricity charge and copy management mode of electricity informationwith full coverage, full collection and full fee control enables centralized automatic meterreading, focus on professional operation and maintenance, centralized intelligentaccounting, centralized fee. Electricity customers will usher in a faster and moreintelligent electricity services era.Meter reading system consists of main station, concentrator and smart meter threeparts. In this meter reading system, concentrator use plastic optical fiber as acommunication channel. It copys data from smart meters, and after processing by theCPU, the collecting data via Ethernet interface to transmit data to the master station, orsave it to the SQLite database of concentrator.In this thesis, firstly, an overview of research background, as well as electricitymeter reading status at home and abroad has been made. Followed, analysis theconcentrator’s overall design, including the selection of CPU, up and downcommunication mode design and data space analysis of concentrator. It then focuses onthe concentrator hardware circuit design based on AT91SAM9260, the circuit consists ofpower module, memory modules, communication module, control module, etc.Concentrator hardware platform is divided into core board and backplane two parts, thecore board with four-layer board designed and the bottom is double designed.Concentrator schematic and PCB design use Protel99SE software. Concentrator usemainstream operation system as software development environment. In order to use thehardware function properly, a transplant of BootLoad, Linux Kernel and root file for thisplatform has been made. And on this basis, associated concentrator hardware devicedrivers has been developed. Finally, transplant of SQLite database used to managevarious types of meter reading data has been made. The concentrator provides a stable,reliable test platform for the next automatic reading meter application programdevelopment.
