Along with the development of the science and technology and computer technology, advanced design method has become one of the important content of research of design. For machinery sector, parametric technology and optimization technique is certainly key content of the advanced design method. This article chooses the frame structure of truss boom to research and discuss parametric technology and methods of optimization.The emergence of CAD technology for engineering design field bring the revolution. And the appearance of second development technique of CAD software to impel the advanced design method is to soar. This article chooses the extensive using of Pro/E software and the Pro/TOOLKIT to realize the parametric design of boom structure.This paper first introduced the basic knowledge of the Pro/TOOLKIT, in order to make everyone to have a basic level of understanding of the Pro/TOOLKIT. As a common second development tools of Pro/E software, it provides a more convenient function of second development. The paper also introduce how VS2008, Pro/TOOLKIT tools and Pro/E software to communicate between each other.The determination of the basic parameters is one of the importance process of boom parametric. Based on the introduction of the metal frame structure of boom, the paper described the basic parameters of the boom structure in detailed and deduced the formula of the concrete. Then designed the boom software system by using Microsoft Visual Studio2008(VS2008), this system has a visualization of the calculation of the interface, so as to designers to the design of the boom structure.After completion of the design of boom structure, designers can make sure what parameters must in the Pro/TOOLKIT program. In this paper designers created the parametric model of boom in Pro/E at first, and then used VS2008programming environment to write Pro/TOOLKIT program, and designers realized the parametric design of boom in the form of Dynamic link library (. DLL). Designers can drive through the modification of the condition such as size, and realize the parameters of the boom structure. After getting a parametric model for boom, designers can import it to ansys for analysis and calculation of structure, then designers can know whether it accord with the country design standard of boom structure. Through the calculation results of the analysis of the strength and stiffness of the boom structure, we can find the optimization of boom structure space is larger.In the traditional optimization method reflect its shortcomings gradually, this article chooses a novel neural network algorithm-BP neural network algorithm to achieve the optimization of the boom structure. After understanding some basic optimization methods, this article introduces the truss boom of the optimization variables, the objective function and constraints in detail, and introduces a specific instance of the optimization analysis.After analyzed the structure design, calculation and optimization analysis of truss boom in detail, I found that if we can develop a set of product design, calculation and optimization in the integration of one digital design system, it will greatly improve the efficiency of product design.
