It is a major industry of the citrus in China. The citrus cultivation area and production are rank first in the world. The main producing areas located in the mountain hills and sloping areas. The citrus needs a reasonable implementation of the irrigation, as less rain and drought in the growth period of the citrus fruit is a major factor that aggravated on a citrus production and quality. It is extremely necessary to develop a general citrus irrigation remote control system which can adapt to China's national conditions, meet the "labor-saving, low-cost" development requirements and can be operated by farmers.The project develops a remote control system of electric irrigation pump sets in citrus orchards based on GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication) SMS (Short Messaging Service). The system of the project mainly consists of communication module, control module, driver and trigger module, the light and voice warning module, power module, mobile phones and control platform, the communication module using GSM communication module, the control module using the family of MSP430 microcontrollers, the driving and triggering modules using solid state relays and thyristor application circuits. Send SMS control instruction using the phone and the control platform when it is needed. The SMS control instruction is send to the MSP430 microcontrollers by the GSM communication module, and then the MSP430 microcontroller drivers the driver and trigger module to control the electric irrigation pump sets according the SMS control instruction. When the control instruction is completed, the MSP430 microcontroller sends the information feedback and the collected data to the GSM SMS module. Then the GSM SMS module sends the information feedback and the collected data to the phone and the monitor and control platform through the GSM network composed by the all levels of GSM mobile base stations. This facilitates the inquiries by the phone and the data analysis in the monitoring platforms.The system using the embedded technology, in a modular design concept, can achieve the rational use of the existing electric irrigation pump set in the citrus orchard. It can ensure the transfer performance of the system, and be easy to expansion and upgrade. Experiments show that the system can realize the remote control of irrigation, on-site voice alerts, SMS feedback, irrigation information collection, query and storage and other functions, applicable to all types of mobile or wireless phone. The send and receive SMS numbers can be changed by replacing the SIM card according to the need, and it has the functions of anti-harassment and delete spam messages.
