Tongcheng has a long history, and been famous for the hometown of Tongcheng School. Tongcheng is next to the former capital Anqing, where the geographical position is superior, and producing outstanding personalities.For a century, the academic circle tends to pay more attention to Tongcheng School, but seldom has the academic circle attached importance to the modern Tongcheng social transformation.In late Qing Dynasty and the early years of the Republic of China, changes had been taking place in the whole country while profound changes had been taking placing in the domestic and international situations, as a fraction of the country, changes also emerged in Tongcheng.ChapterⅠmainly introduces the physical environment and humanistic tradition of Tongcheng, in order to make preparation for the following discussion.ChapterⅡbriefly arrange the development situation of Tongcheng historical organization system. Profound changes had been taking placing in late Qing Dynasty and the early years of the Republic of China, which has great influence on Tongcheng. In the age of the Taiping Revolution, the social stability of Tongcheng was badly undermined; At that time, the persistent unsettled political condition produced quite serious negative influence to the development of Tongcheng.ChapterⅢintroduces vicissitudes of Tongcheng's education system and culture. In late Qing Dynasty, governors began to reform the educational system, new types of school education emerged in Tongcheng, while the old types still had some living space.In the Early of ROC, new types education were booming in Tongcheng, various types of school were established, and the courses had become more and more scientific. Tongcheng School was in decline at that time, and local social customs also changed.
