Though cognition theories of structuralism appeared on the scene comparably early, its influence is still witnessed on the increase after the occurrence of modern information technology. Till present, the study on such cognition theories, learning theories and teaching approaches based on structuralism has attracted a lot of attentions no matter at home or overseas.In current higher education reforms, the explorations on how to foster talents suitable for the development of the society and on how to adjust the traditional teaching ideas and approaches so as to optimize the teaching model for teaching effects have long stayed the core mission and focus of teaching reforms. However, the traditional objectivism teaching ideas still dominate the leading position in China, consequently, which actually hinders the development of education. Indoor Design includes multiple subjects, being of strong characteristics of arts and techniques and also a practical course. Therefore, oversimplified teaching approaches confined by the traditional objectivism teaching model can not fulfill the target of the training of professionals at all.In recent years, with the development of information technology, the structuralism acquires a rapid development under the conditions of new techniques. Such elements as the course features of Indoor Design, the intelligence of the students, the teaching environments all conform to the teaching ideas of structuralism. On the one hand,, the knowledge provided in the Indoor Design curriculum can hardly meet the requirements of students and so satisfy teaching purposes. Under the new circumstance, the students study and exploration would become meaningful. Students are the people to construct knowledge by means of reading through lots of information and materials, downloading reference materials to compensate for the inadequacy of knowledge and experience. On the other hand, practical teaching requires a lot more cooperation and interaction. Students complete the assignments in the course of teaching through communication, exchanges, discussion and cooperation, and thus reach richer and more flexible comprehension of the contents. Under the support of the teaching model of this type, objectives of Indoor Design teaching will get fulfilled certainly.This thesis will make use of analyzing the problems in the teaching of Indoor Design in China nowadays and interpretation of structuralism theories, discuss the feasibility of structuralism in Indoor Design course teaching, and then furthers expounding the value of structuralism to train learners with inquiring spirits, foster expert-type teaching staff and realize school education as a combination of production, learning and research.
