Nowadays, the communication between people of different cultures is on the rise, and there are also many researches on cross-cultural communication. However, there are only a few researches on Chinese post 90s college students' level of cross-cultural awareness. This thesis tends to study Chinese post 90s college students'cross-cultural awareness under the four levels of Robert G. Hanvey (1981).Quantitative and qualitative research methods are applied in this thesis to study the data which are collected by questionnaires and journal writings. With the combination of the two methods, students' cross-cultural communication knowledge and cross-cultural awareness are thoroughly analyzed. With the above theories and methods, the following significant findings are achieved. Firstly, among 20 questions in Questionnaireâ… , the accuracy of students' answers is about 55%, which means 45% of the questions are poorly answered by the students. The ratio of correct answers and wrong answers to questions is 1.22:1. So they lack some cross-cultural communication knowledge, which can affect their cross-cultural awareness. Secondly, some post 90s Chinese students still have stereotypes and prejudices against people of different cultures. Their cross-cultural awareness mainly remains at level one and level two. Only 47.2% students' cross-cultural awareness is at level three, and there is no student whose cross-cultural awareness is at level four. Thus their cross-cultural awareness needs to be improved for better communication with people of different cultures. This research intends to arouse college English teachers' attention on students' cross-cultural awareness and thus teachers will add more materials on culture in FLT classes. Students may be aware of their own attitudes toward different cultures, which help them to make changes for attitudes towards people of other cultures.
