Fangshan, a county in the west of Shanxi, is located in west hinterland of Lvliang Mount. Fangshan dialect belongs to Fenzhou of Lvliang area, a part of Jin dialect. At present, the systematic survey about Fangshan dialect is comparatively little. It needs the further research.In this thesis, I take the phonetics of Fangshan dialect as the mainly research object, and I have the firsthand materials about it gained by the laws. The thesis tries to provide objective description about the status quo of phonetics in Fangshan dialect by the synchronic descriptive method, and makes the phonetic comparison between Fangshan dialect and Medieval pronunciation, and one between Fangshan dialect and Chinese Mandarin by the way of the combination of synchronic and diachronic description, searching for the basic regular pattern of its development. Besides, it makes an analysis of some sound changes in Fangshan dialect such as the difference between literary reading and colloquial reading, disyllabic tone sandhi and neutral tone, the separated sounds and combined sounds.The whole thesis contains eight chapters:Preface:It introduces the outline of the geography and population of Fangshan, the belongingness of Fangshan dialect and its phonetic features and internal regionalization. It also clarifies the meaning and the method of this research, the persons who pronounced for me, and the symbols used in the paper.Chapter1:The phonetics of Fangshan dialect. It gives the systematic description of the phonetics in Fangshan dialect, including twenty-three consonants, twenty-nine vowels, six tones and their combinatory rules through the traditional descriptive method.Chapter2:The phonetic comparison between Fangshan dialect and Medieval pronunciation. It describes the differences in phonetics between Fangshan dialect and Medieval pronunciation, so as to search for the development regularity of it in Fangshan dialect.Chapter3:The phonetic comparison between Fangshan dialect and Chinese Mandarin. It makes a phonetic comparison between them in order to observe the influence of Chinese Mandarin on Fangshan dialect and grasp the development tendency of Fangshan dialect. Chapter4:The differences between literary reading and colloquial reading in Fangshan dialect. It describes the phenomenon, the characteristics and the nature of the differences between literary reading and colloquial reading, and analyzes the phonetic pattern reflected by it.Chapter5:The tone sandhi of Fangshan dialect. It describes the combinatory rules of sounds and tones in Fangshan dialect, and makes an analysis of the special phenomenon about noun tone sandhi in Fangshan dialect.Chapter6:The separated sounds and combined sounds in Fangshan dialect. It makes the description and analysis of the separated sounds and combined sounds in Fangshan dialect.Chapter7:A collection of homophones in Fangshan dialect. It gives a systematic generalization of the basic language materials used in writing the thesis, and gives a comprehensive and concrete description of the phonetics in Fangshan dialect according to the collection of homophones.
