Characteristics Of English News And Its Translation

As one of important tools for information transmissions, English news has a significant influence for China to communicate with other countries in political, economical and cultural aspects. Compared with other languages, English news has its distinct characteristics. Apart from the individual character in languages, say the handling of new vocabulary, polysemy and extended meanings, abundant exotic culture background, such as national interests, collective interests and disputes between two parties brings huge difficulty to news translator. Only if we obey the characteristics of English news, focus on discourse context, and refer to the background, can we realize the Chinese localization of English news functionally. In my paper, I analyze vocabularies, syntax, language styles, as well as cultural background, and give specific translation methods accordingly.
