| The translation of English long sentences is always a difficulty in the process of translation.The reason is that the structure of English long sentences is complex,the sentence pattern is diverse,and the logical structure is not obvious.This report is based on the news of New York Times.Typical reports from 2018 to 2021（a total of 11 articles）are selected as the corpus for the translation practice of Chinese translation.News texts belong to informational texts.Influenced by timeliness and newspaper length,news reports need to convey as much information as possible in a short space.They are logically rigorous and often have long sentences,which bring great difficulty in translation.Due to the great differences in logic,structure and habitual collocations between English and Chinese,and after careful study and analysis of the original text of the selected corpus,this translation practice focuses on the translation of long sentences,the thesis summarizes the problems encountered in the translation of the long sentences in the original text,including the complex structure of the modifier,the implicit logical structure and the various forms of anaphora cohesion.Combined with specific examples,each of the three types of translation problems are further subdivided into two subcategories,namely,complex adverbial modifiers and attributive modifiers,implicit causal and progressive logic structures,and diverse personal and deictic anaphora cohesion.In view of the specific translation problems above,the author carefully compares and analyzes the differences of sentence structures between English and Chinese,revises and improves the translation repeatedly,and combines the grammatical rules and expression habits of Both Chinese and English languages,thus this thesis proposes the targeted solutions: complex transposition method and transformation method for adverbial modifiers and attributive modifiers;logical manifestation method and transformation recombination method for implied causal logic structure and progressive logic structure;elliptical translation method and supplementary translation method for various personal anaphora cohesion and deictic anaphora cohesion;At the same time,this thesis selects representative translation examples to analyze the process of solving the above translation problems.The above translation problems and corresponding solutions are all derived from this translation practice.It is hoped that the experience of this translation practice can provide certain reference for the translation of long sentences of similar texts. |
