Holding world Expo in Shanghai in 2010 absolutely attracts the world's attention. China, with an area of about 9,600,000 square kilometers, is opening to the world. Its natural scenery, marvelous spectacles, historical sites, long and unique cultural treasures, continually opening new scenic spots and booming economy are attracting more and more foreigners. The world needs to know China, while China needs to enter the world. Tourism can be regarded an important medium publicizing China effectively. Picturesque scenery charms domestic and foreign tourists. The number of foreign tourists is also considerably increasing. Therefore, travel materials translated into English play more and more important role in intercultural communication. As tourism texts transmit message, facilitate understanding and exchange various situations, it is essential to put a high value on the translation of C-E. In other words, tourism translation is not merely supplementary and instrumental, but an essential part of international communication. But the existing tourism text translation seems to be inadequate and unclear, sometimes even causes misunderstanding. Poor translation fails to achieve the intended goal and is far from being satisfactory. It is very important to improve the quality of translation for tourism texts. To attempt to resolve the problems in current existing tourism text translation, a further discussion and study is necessary and vital. How to distinguish varied translation of tourism texts and improve the translation quality? The guiding principles are of great significance in translation. Functionalism Theory and Skopostheory will give us possible answers. The thesis aims at applying the Skopostheorie to analyze tourism texts translation and eventually improving the quality of translation and achieve our tourism purpose. In terms of discourse type, tourism texts can be divided into prose style and expository style, presenting information function and appellative function respectively. Generally, a certain appellative function is achieved by direct function mark and indirect function mark. Direct function mark mainly is some subjective evaluation, modified language and rhetoric (such as, the best, most qualified, excellent, top, internationally, acknowledged, excellence etc.) Indirect function mark is realized through some information like ranking, awards, related data, fact etc. As tourist texts are mostly complex, this thesis makes a meticulous discussion only with focusing on text information and function marker. The purpose that people spend money and time to travel is for pleasure. An important point for the tourists is to experience and appreciate the beauty and to have fun. Picturesque landscape and enchanting attractions also need appropriate and vivid language to describe and convey the beauty. From this kind of sense, a translator is also regarded as a messenger of beauty. Based on practical, useful studies that have been done about Skopostherie, the thesis highlights four new views.1. The association of Darwin's natural selection theory and Skopostheorie2. Considering the tourists'enjoyment and fun as a new view of translation.3. Taking tourist tickets translation as a subject of discussion.4. Function mark as a method of skopos selection. So that the tourists feel full of fun and stay in an unforgettable impression, It is necessary for a translator to make an adjustment and reorganize the information while doing translation. This thesis consists of five chapters.Chapter 1 starts with an introduction, discussing the significances of the study literature and the reason for choosing the skopostheory.Chapter 2 elaborates the related theoretical framework. Some representative works are discussed.Chapter 3 analyzes the characteristics of English and Chinese tourism texts through contrastive analysis and explores some factors including cultural factors involved in translation.Chapter 4 exemplifies some tourism materials, tourist tickets in particular. These specific examples show various ways of translating under the guidance of Skopostheorie.Chapter 5 draws a conclusion. The feasibility and effectiveness of skopostheorie are summarized.
