Chinese characters form a symbolic system of recording the Chinese Language, and the teaching of Chinese characters plays an important role in teaching Chinese as second language. The former researches on the teaching of Chinese characters in teaching Chinese as second language mostly focus on teaching theories and teaching experiences, and relatively little efforts have been put into the research on teaching strategies which can be derived from the very characteristics of Chinese characters. Chinese culture is profound, not only in pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar in teaching Chinese as second language, but also in terms of Chinese character. However, researches on a comprehensive analysis of Chinese characters in teaching Chinese as second language are scarce, so this article will focus on methods of importing Chinese cultural knowledge into the teaching of Chinese characters during different learning phases in order to improve the ability of students to master Chinese characters.This article is structured as follows. The first chapter is to explore the possibility of bringing Chinese cultural knowledge into the teaching of Chinese characters, and the teaching significance and possible effects of it. The second chapter is the analysis of the teaching principles needed to follow during the importation of Chinese cultural content into the teaching Chinese as second language, and the scientific teaching methods of doing it. The third chapter propose different teaching strategies for teachers to apply according to the different stages at which foreign students are. The primary stage emphasis on of basic knowledge of Chinese characters, and the importation of Chinese cultural should take place when explaining the structures and radicals of Chinese characters. While at the senior stage, teachers should continue to attach importance to Chinese courses and cultural importation, and try to present different forms of teaching strategies.By the end of this article, all possible problems in the teaching process and their relevant solutions are presented. In future, we hope to improve them during practice, thus to achieve better teaching results.
