Chinese character is a record of Chinese writing symbols system. It is one of the four major language elements of teaching Chinese as a foreign language. Therefore, Chinese character teaching plays an important role in teaching Chinese as a foreign language. At present, there is an existence in the field of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, which Chinese character is difficult to teach and Chinese characters are difficult to learn. Many foreign learners of Chinese prohibitive, thus hindering the smooth development of the cause of teaching Chinese as a foreign language. How to eliminate students on the Chinese fear and let the students grasp the Chinese characters more quickly and effectively to improve the effect of Chinese characters teaching? It is the main task of Chinese characters teaching. This paper mainly discusses Chinese characters teaching from four aspects.The first part mainly discusses the theoretical basis involved in the study. From the theoretical basis of the behaviorism learning theory, cognitive learning theory, error analysis theory and students Chinese characters cognitive psychology, we discuss the main teaching methods and learning strategies of Chinese characters teaching. We summed up the "small steps teaching method", "feedback" and "reinforcement" teaching method and the strategy. We divided the development of the students learning Chinese characters into four periods: the exciting period, the period of frustration, the period of adjustment and the period of adaptation.The second part mainly discusses the "Chinese characters teaching is difficult". This phenomenon is analyzed through the discussion of which caused the difficulty of Chinese characters teaching. There are four reasons: it is determined by the nature of Chinese characters themselves; the teaching method of Chinese characters teaching is not scientific; the different cognitive habits between the Chinese and foreign language; Chinese characters teaching has not been valued. In the part of the nature of Chinese characters, I pointed out that the number of Chinese characters is too much, the shape and structure of Chinese characters is complex, a Chinese character can have more than one pronunciation, one pronunciation can be expressed by a number of Chinese characters. From the two aspects of teachers and learners, it is revealed that Chinese characters teaching has not received enough attention.The third part mainly analyzes the errors of foreign students in learning Chinese characters. We discussed the phenomenon from the there aspects of the stroke errors, the component errors and the whole word errors. We summarized three errors from the angle of strokes : the increase or decrease of strokes, the misuse of strokes and the improper order of strokes. We summarized three errors from the perspective of radical the increase or loss of the components, the deformation of the component parts, the confusion of radicals. We summarized four errors from the whole word: the lost structure of Chinese characters, components of the dislocation, strokes or part between the proportion of imbalances and wrongly written and mispronounced character. The errors in each part are illustrated with examples and the corresponding modification suggestions.The fourth part mainly aims at putting forward the teaching strategies of Chinese characters teaching according to the difficulty of Chinese characters teaching and the errors made by the students when they learned the Chinese characters. The first point is to stimulate students’ interest in learning through a variety of ways. I discussed how to improve the enthusiasm of students to learn Chinese characters from the three aspects of the relationship between Chinese characters and culture, the picture nature of Chinese characters and the beauty of Chinese characters. Secondly, I pointed that we should adopt the principle of step by step Teaching to eliminate the fear of difficulty,which was based on the cognitive characteristics of students. To improve students’ learning efficiency and the accurate of Chinese characters I proposed "word theory teaching", "contrast emphasizes", "association teaching", "inductive method" and "building a Chinese corpus".Finally, this paper summarizes the main points.Besides, the deficiency and prospect of this paper are put forward in the end.
