This study was investigated the coping ability of college students and the effects of group counseling on improving coping ability. First, the Coping Ability Scale of college students and the Adolescent Self-Rating Life Events Check List was administrated to the students of four colleges in Harbin. The subjects was 898 students. Then, based on the results to understand the coping ability and major life events of college students, and to develop group counseling program on coping ability,11 students was selected the pilot study of the program, and 44 students were divided into the experimental group and control group.The major results of this study were:The coping ability of college students was in the medium-positive level; there were the significant differences of coping ability on gender, maior study, coming from city or county, and singe child in family or not of students; the relationship between coping ability and life events of students was significantly negatively related; and by the group counseling program, the coping ability of students in experimental group were significantly improved than before as well as compared with the control group.Based on the results, the suggestions of the mental health education of college students, psychological counseling and the future research were respectively discussed.
