Exploration Of University Teaching Materials For Dance Derived From Primitive-pattern Dancing

The Jinbei Drum Kick Yangko is circulated around the north of Shanxi Province, popular in the towns and counties in Datong, Shuozhou and the borders of Shanxi, Hebei and Inner Mongolia. It was named for its performing form---kicking the little drum tied to the wrist. But the drum was lost later and only the male role "Guzi (the drum kick boy)" has been retained. The movements of the Drum Kick Yangko derive mainly from traditional Chinese operas and martial arts, including the forms of Dachangzi (showing of over five people at fixed sites), Xiaochangzi (showing at fixed sites with fewer than five people), and Guojiechangzi (Parading showing on the streets). It is one of the main activities of ancestor worshiping and wishing people a Happy New Year during the Spring Festival and the Lantern Festival.Through 3 years' investigation among the local people and careful exploration, the author has obtained a great amount of first-hand information from the folk-custom activities related to the Drum Kick Yangko. In the first place, he grasps its ecological niche from the geographical distribution, historical origins, performing patterns and folk-custom activities. On the basis of that, he refines the features and analyzes the elements of the typical movements of Guzi and Lahua (the female role) so as to master the fundamental elements. Furthermore, he has done a scientific and systematic research on them and has completed the organization and compilation of the class training materials with the "element teaching methods".It not only inherits and preserves the national and folk arts to construct the class teaching system of the Drum Kick Yangko, but leads this kind of folk dance to the road to being more scientific and systematic as well, which, on the one hand, fills in the blank of Lahua class teaching materials, and, on the other hand, perfects the structure of the the Guzi class teaching materials. Meanwhile, it also promotes the exploration of dancing majors' cultivation modes of Shanxi University.
