Design in original time met people's material needs, while since it has been far from the initial stage modern art design mainly serves enriching our ever-increasing cultural and spiritual needs. With a reflection of modern people's spiritual pursuit, art design has infused into the realm of culture and spirit.After experiencing the period of imitation and westernization, modern art design is gathering momentum. Designers now work for the interpretation of the graphic meaning rather than sticking to the previous simple graphic processing. They shift their focus from stylish elements in areas with developed mass media to the native elements and culture of design through exploring elements of native feature, among which the art of religion has been given much more concern. Buddhism with its history of 1900 years is the religion that has exerted the most profound and broadest influence on Chinese culture, idea and art. By means of analyzing the semiotics in the context of Buddhist graph, rules of composition and graphic semantics, designers are in pursuit of elements interlinked with modern art in order to look for a new source for the creativity of modern art design.Mystery and charm delivered from the symbolic semiotics in Buddhism permeated with slow pace into the endless flow of time. Full of religious mystery, narration and inherited thinking, the semiotics in Buddhist graph display us its unique broad form, and combing with modern art it gave birth to lots of artistic works rich in vigor and strength. During the decades of development, design has matured with accumulation of studying. Exploring elements of characteristic flavor in the interest of oneself and creating meaningful works make clear for the art design a new orientation in present days.
