Due to the complexity of directional complements'extended meaning and the knowledge about its situation, hence, directional complements teaching is one of the most difficult point in teaching Chinese as a foreign language. This paper focuses on a second language acquisition theory as a basis, taking statistics and comparative data analysis as the basic methods, plus some comparison between the Chinese directional complements and the corresponding forms of Chinese directional complements in Thai language, and analyses the acquisition error types of Thai students, so as to provide quality materials and valuable references for writing of teaching materials'for directional complements'teaching.This paper consists of five chapters:The first chapter introduces the background of the topic, the study targets, the objectives, materials and methodology, the scope, the theory basis and research ideas, etc. and finally a brief description on the research results.The second chapter comparatively analyses the corresponding relationship between the Chinese directional complements and the counterparts in Thai language on forms and meanings, on the other side, the paper draws the table on corresponding relationship between Chinese and Thai language, compares the position's relationship on directional complements and object between Chinese and Thai language.The third chapter deals with statistics and description on acquisition error rate of each kind of directional complements of the Thai students.The fourth chapter combines the materials that was obtained from the grammar test and the corpus, and analyses the types of acquisition errors.The fifth chapter takes the error study as the basis and then gives recommendations for teaching.
