Yan Fu is the forerunner who introduced Western culture, whose translations ofWestern classics had a tremendous impact on modern Chinese intellectuals. He is notonly familiar with Western culture, but also well versed in Chinese traditions. Yan Fu isable to approach both cultures in an objective manner when comparing Chinese culturewith western culture. His methodology for such comparison is based on his owninterpretation of western culture as well as the society of contemporary China, fromwhich he provides interventions that aims at reforming scholarship and service towardprosperity for the Chinese.Yan Fu introduced A System of Logic to China. Methodologies discussed in thisbook have already been subtly applied in the above mentioned comparison. During thetranslating of this book, he has purposefully dealt with of Chinese and Western culturewith an inductive approach. This paper will be using A System of Logic as a keyreference, to provide a detailed analysis of Yan Fu's methodology in comparing Chineseand Western culture.
