It is well-known that translator plays quite an important role in the process of translation. But during the long river of translation history, translator was always ignored and didn't receive due recognition and attention. With the rise of culture turn in 1970s, translator's subjectivity is gradually accepted. The translator's status rises from "subordinate" and "servant" to a creative subject.Nowadays, people pay more attention to translator's subjectivity. Many factors concerning it become hot issues in translation research. For example, what is subject? What is subjectivity? What is translator's subjectivity?Subject refers to the main parts of things, and from the philosophical point of view, persons who possess the ability to recognize and to behave. As to the definition of subject, Chinese scholars wrote many papers to illustrate their own opinions, but no consensus reached so far. Subjectivity refers to the personal reaction shown by the expression of personal opinion, emotion and the understanding of knowledge. In a way, subject and subjectivity are similar, but are confined by the objective factors. As to the realization of translator's subjectivity, Chinese scholars tend to define it from the philosophical point of view. But like the definition of subject, they don't reach a consensus. In this thesis, the writer takes translator as the subject in translation, and doesn't include the author of the source text and the reader of the target text, for they are creative subject and receptor respectively. When we confirm the role of translator, we should also be aware of the fact that the development of translator's subjectivity may also be influenced by many factors. Andre Lefevere indicated in his rewriting theory that the issues may shed light on translator's subjectivity including:ideology, poetics and patronage. This thesis is written on the basis of rewriting theory and takes Fu Donghua's translation of Margaret Mitchell's Gone with the Wind as text. Considering Fu Donghua's translation background, the writer tries to find out the translation motivation, strategy and method when he translated Gone with the Wind. Many examples are listed to prove the manifestation of his subjectivity. So, now we come to the conclusion. On one hand, we have to admit and respect translator's subjectivity. But, translation process won't escape from the restriction of objective condition. Translator must be reflected by the mainstream culture background and ideology, etc. to make his or her translation more acceptable at current time. On the other hand, we can't exaggerate the subjectivity of translator. We should make deep research into translator's subjectivity and find the active factors to make contribution to the cultivation of translator.
