Energy diplomacy is a diplomatic activity with energy import or export nations, transit nations, multinational oil company, international organization and crucial figures, which aims for strengthen homeland energy import or export security and maximizing geopolitical economic interest and national interest. Energy diplomacy is in the context of international energy politics, is a process of multi leveled game and interest exchange that reach to a temporary equivalent. Energy diplomacy now has become a critical power to propel reorganization international energy order and international political economy order. Also energy diplomacy is a branch of economic diplomacy, and energy diplomacy strategy is an overall plan and guide for national energy security and development concerned foreign affairs.Japan is one of the nations which outstandingly implement energy diplomacy. The prime mission for Japan's Energy Diplomacy is to keep homeland energy secure. This thesis does research on post war Japanese energy security. Analyzing the historical development and its traits of post war Japan's Energy Diplomacy, then evaluates each stages of Japan's Energy Diplomacy. The causes of Japan's Energy Diplomacy evolution can be examined from two levels, and extracting the essence of Japan's Energy Diplomatic Strategy.This thesis has important practical significance as well. We can get some inspiration through studying Japan's Energy Diplomacy and its strategic evolution. We could draw some useful learning from its successful experience and learn a lesson from its setbacks. By probing the affections of Japan's Energy Diplomacy in Northeast Asia Energy Cooperation, can we deeply understand the opportunities and obstacles in the regional Energy Cooperation and face them, thus make our own effort on the Regional Energy Cooperation.Specifically, this thesis discusses from the following parts:The first part is introduction, the discussion not only focuses on the research background, purpose and significance but also states domestic and international research frameworks and outlines and research methods.The second part is the origin and development of Japan's energy diplomacy. This section covers the period from World War Two till the end of Cold War. Japan's energy diplomacy is broadly divided into two stages which are the origin period and Japan's energy diplomacy during two Oil Crises.The third part is the strategic adjustment of Japan's Energy Diplomacy after the Cold War. This section first analyzes the content of post——Cold War Japan Energy Diplomatic Strategy, and considers the causes of Japan's Energy Diplomacy from both international and national levels. Therefore the essence of Japan's Energy Diplomacy evolution could be scientifically analyzed.The fourth part discusses the affection of Japan's Energy Diplomacy puts on Northeast Asia energy cooperation. Through the introduction of the current situation of Northeast Asia energy cooperation, this thesis analyzes the duplicity of the influences of Japan's Energy Diplomacy on Northeast Asian Energy Cooperation, and therefore exploring the real purpose behind the series of action.The fifth part is the conclusion of the entire thesis.
