The Study On Copyright Protection For Computer Fonts

The Chinese character has a vital role in inheriting our thousands civilization. In recent decades, Chinese civilization entered into a new developing stage and the computer font industry flourished because of the combination of the character and the computer industry. But after the period of glory in the 1990s, the computer font industry has fallen into a difficult period due to lacking the good protection.This paper , being baited with the series of font cases of the Founder, discusses about the computer font copyright protection.Chapter 1 defines the fonts and other related concepts, so as to analyze and discuss the copyright protection in the following parts.Chapter 2 introduces the Founder font case and briefly summarizes its controversy focus of the three cases, then through comparing the protection situation of the computer font between Taiwan and the foreign countries to analyse why we should use copyright to protect the computer font.Chapter 3 analyses some specific questions on the copyright protection of the computer font which is based on the Founder font case and some relevant provision of the current law.The last chapter discusses the provision and judicial practices on the font protection in other countries, then analyses some experience and raises up some viewpoints and suggestions for the computer font protection .
