The Influence Of Social Support For The Seniors In Modern City In The Course Of Life

The objectives of this study is investigate life course how to be a social support as the contributing factors for seniors in modern city of China. This study used the methodology of case study, select and in-depth interview eleven urban seniors in modern city and their relevant people, Pay attention to observe the interaction of social support, using the life course paradigm for analysis. The study finds that:(1)different life events may have different effects on old people, for example, family background, get married, widowed, fertility, children starting a family, get educated, take job, migration, removal, retirement, decrepit, political event, etc. These events may induce and influence each other.(2)The different individual face similar life events may make different coping and produce different effect, that reflects the personal initiative;(3)Life event happens the individual's age and track continue the length of time is meaningful, may lead to different social support of individual.(4)the situation of the personal social support network and the style they accept that has generally stable before they entered the old stage, retirement and aging can affect it, but that happened and entered the old stage are not in the same time.(5)Social history structure will directly or indirectly limit and influence of individual social support, Chinese urban seniors as a specific group of the same period, that life course has their historic uniqueness.
