In the context of population aging, the physical function of elderly people tends to decline as they grow older, while social factors such as retirement and relocation tend to trigger a series of psychological problems, such as loneliness and anxiety, etc.Physical and psychological changes are important factors affecting the quality of life of the elderly. As an effective means to improve the quality of life of the elderly, physical exercise has been mentioned in the policies of "Healthy Aging" and "Healthy China" to cope with the strategic development of population aging, which shows the importance of physical exercise to improve the quality of life.In this paper, physical exercise as the independent variable, quality of life as the dependent variable and social support as the mediating variable are used to study the relationship between physical exercise, social support and quality of life, and to verify the mediating role of social support and its mechanism of action. The elderly people aged 60 or above who participated in physical exercise in Nanchang administrative district were used as the target population, and the research methods of literature, questionnaire and mathematical statistics were used.540 questionnaires were distributed to the elderly people in the district by stratified random sampling method using the Physical Exercise Rating Scale,Social Support Rating Scale and Quality of Life Scale, and 530 questionnaires were finally valid after screening the questionnaires. The questionnaire has good reliability and validity.Descriptive analysis, correlation analysis and regression analysis were conducted using spss26.0 statistical software to test the relationship between variables, and the following research results were obtained:(1)In terms of physical exercise, the percentages of low, medium and high physical exercise in the elderly group were 42.26%,44.72% and 13.02%,respectively,and the amount of physical exercise in the surveyed elderly group was at a medium level;there were significant differences in physical exercise in terms of gender, marital status, education level, household registration and monthly income(p<0.05).(2)In terms of social support, the mean score of social support of the elderly group was 33.46,which was at a medium level;there were significant differences in social support in terms of gender, marital status, education level, household registration, form of residence and monthly income(p<0.05).(3)In terms of quality of life, the mean score of elderly people’s quality of life was 67.16,with a high overall quality of life and high scores in the psychological domain, social relationship domain and environmental domain, but relatively low scores in the physical domain;there were significant differences in quality of life in terms of education level, household registration and monthly income(p<0.05).(4)Among the effects of physical exercise on quality of life and social support, physical exercise had a significant positive predictive effect on quality of life(F=3.722,R~2=0.128),physical exercise had a significant positive predictive effect on social support(F=12.193,R~2=0.324),and social support had a significant positive predictive effect on quality of life(F=5.658.In addition, there was a full mediating effect between social support and quality of life, indicating that the longer and more frequent the physical exercise, the more people the older people had contacted and met, thus expanding the social network and obtaining more social support in the social support network, whether from family or social organizations, which could alleviate the loneliness and depression of the older people and improve their health. In turn,it can improve health status and quality of life. The study concludes that physical exercise positively affects the quality of life of older adults, and social support fully mediates the relationship between physical exercise and quality of life, and physical exercise can improve the social support of older adults, which in turn can improve the quality of life of older adults.
