The Research Of Government Credibility In Public Crisis Management

Government credibility refers to public confidence which is based on the government's own credit of performing public power. It is the basis of political legitimacy and the source of government life. Public crisis is both a crisis and an opportunity for government credibility. In other words, if public crisis management is appropriate and effective, government credibility will be able to restore or even be enhanced. Otherwise government credibility will be brought to its knees. In recent years, food crisis happened frequently. And there were more or less some problems in public food crisis management which had weakened government credibility. Therefore, studying the impact on government credibility from public crisis management, discovering performances and causes of weakening government credibility, and identifying some ways to enhance government credibility are not only conducive to resolve food crisis, but also to restore or even promote government credibility.First, this article had an overview of relational concepts and theoretical knowledge about public crisis management and government credibility which laid the theoretical foundation of this article. Second, this article analyzed the relationship between public crisis management and government credibility. And the author emphasized the impact on government credibility in management philosophy, behavior and effectiveness of public crisis management. Based on the relationship between them, the author could found the weakening performance of government credibility from specific food safety emergencies, and analyze these underlying causes and common problems. Finally, the author proposed some suggestions to enhance government credibility, such as updating the idea of public crisis management, perfecting the laws related to public crisis management, protecting public crisis information, improving the operational mechanism of public crisis management, strengthening accountability mechanisms. The purpose of this study is identifying common problems and underlying causes of the weakening government credibility from specific food safety emergencies in order to restore or even improve government credibility which is damaged in public crisis.
