As an important population control policy in China, Family Planning Policy has had crucial impact on China in many aspects. One question which has always been in discussion is the influence of family planning policy have on old-age support in rural area. The implement of family planning policy caused a decline in birth rate, which lead to some variation in rural family structure. There is a inclination of the emergence of more and more nucleus family and family of small scale. At this phase, rural old-age is mostly relying on the support of sons and daughters, but to each son or daughter, income is limited. So the left off after spending on their own necessity, there is not much left for supporting their parents. Though they have less children, the cost of raising them does not cut down, especially for those parents who have sons to raise.It is still impossible for parents to save enough for old-age. Though one child policy is not strictly implemented, rural families still have much less children. So parents automatically put more attention on their only son. But because of the extra attention, children are more incline to take it for granted to accept parents' unconditional offer, which lead to a decline in sense of responsibility, and causes unwillingness to support old-ages. Another change in relation between generations in rural family is the change of focus. Instead of putting elder's requirements first, families start to consider later generation as prime. Since the younger generation become priority, less focus is placed on elder, which makes situation of rural old-age support even worse.
