Today, the change of the character and duty of international basic education makes new requests and challenge of curriculum and teaching evaluation reform. The assessment for learning is evolved from formative assessment and has been evaluation theory and practice of something new of Chinese basic education reform. This new kind of evaluation will be one of the inevitable choices of evaluation reform of geography of senior middle school in our country. Because evaluation subjects are not only including teachers, advocating peer review and students self-assessment, encouraging the head of a family to take part in, paying attention to all-sided development of students, especially students emotion and attitude, practical ability, creative ability etc. being a import part of evaluation, paying more attention to students'interest and motivation, emphasizing on communication between teacher and student and between student and student, and avoiding the disadvantages of traditional evaluation idea, manner etc. at bottom.We investigate the documents to study the concept, connotation, characteristics and strategies of the assessment for learning and further analyze the theory and evaluation principles of the assessment for learning by summarizing evaluation and the development its relative concept. We think the result has some theoretical value. Moreover, we attempt to evaluate the aim and contents of the assessment for learning of geography of senior middle school and construct evaluation system. We preliminarily study the subject of the assessment for learning and the multi-evaluation methods. The above researches on the assessment for learning of geography of senior middle school are not done before and have some reference value.
