Considering the reform in biology courses in China, this paper analyzes American biology textbook Biology·The Dynamics of Life, and compares with the new biology textbook which is published by People's Education Press(PEP) in China. The aim is to provide some reference materials for the reform in China.The author uses several methods including education literature analysis and comparative study. On the basis of research in this field, the paper compares the differences and similarities between National Science Education Standards and Chinese biology coures standard from the aspects of objectives in teaching, content standards, evaluation standards. The paper also analyzes the feature of The Dynamics of Life, and compares with the new biology textbook(PEP) from six aspects such as the structure system in textbooks, imaging system, evaluation system, experimental pages, material part, the use of network resources and so on.The final conclusion is that, two sets of biology textbooks have much in common. They are to increase scientific literacy as the basic concept of biology. Both of them have reasonable structure and foucs on the subject integration. The experiences in the USA textbook are various. Both of them pay attention to the change of learning style. The point of focus on the network resource in them are different.
