China had become an aging society at the turn of the 21th century.The large group of the elderly and various problems which follow it will affect economic development and modern construction.In such background, it is necessary for us to develop the education for the aged and encourage them to learn actively.Developing old education is benifitful,not only for the whole society,but also for the elderly themselves.However there are some shortages.For example, old people's learning needs are neglected.The paper chooses Ningbo senior university as a case, through using questionnaire surveying learing conditions of the elderly, and summarizing its characteristics and existing problems, trying to propose the strategies.The paper focuses on the learning needs of the elderly. Firstly, the paper discusses the significance for old people to learn from academic aspects which including the theories of life-span development and the needs of human.Secondly, the paper discusses the significance for old people's learning from realistic aspects which including the challenges from knowledge-based society, changing family and old people themselves. Thirdly,the paper investigates learning actuality and learning needs in Ningbo SeniorUniversity,then, analyzes learning needs of old people in Ningbo and correlation between the learning needs and different gender,age,academic degree and income.After that,based on the investigation,the paper finds out the problems,such as its backward idea,its shorten chances to learn,its poor content and its antiquate approaches and so on,which exists in process the third-age university trying to satisfy the old people's learning needs. In order to resolve these problems, the paper puts forward the following suggests: renewing learning idea, sharing society teaching resources, widening learning content and creating educational methods.
