Through the survey of the current situation of humanistic education in art appreciation teaching, and the analysis of the humanistic value of it, this paper tries to analyze the connotation of humanism and explore the practical strategies of humanistic education in the art appreciation teaching from two aspect: teaching materials and students. By applying humanism in art appreciation education, this study is made more scientific, deep and systematic. This thesis not only focuses on the theoretical studies but the guidance of practical teaching in art appreciation education. This paper tries to solve two questions: how to integrate the concept of New Curriculum Reform into the teaching practice, and how to popularize the humanistic course design to the students.This paper is composed of five parts. Part one is introduction. This part expatiates on the purpose, main contents and significance of the paper, introduces the related study at abroad and home, and points out the theoretical basis and research methods. Part two analyzes the humanistic difficulties appeared in the middle school students in the new period, and makes rational examination on the current situation of humanistic education in the art appreciation teaching. Part three analyzes the significance and values of humanistic education in the art appreciation teaching from three aspects: the necessity to cultivate students'humanistic spirit, the humanistic characteristics of art appreciation education, and the humanistic value of art appreciation course. Part four is the major part of this paper which explores the practical strategies of humanistic education in the art appreciation teaching. Based on postmodernism, this part focuses on two points. The first point discusses on how to detect the humanities connotations of teaching materials. Its main strategies include:"emphasizing the multiplicity of appreciation environment, enhancing students'humanistic qualities";"focusing on humanities in appreciation materials, promoting students'humanistic thinking; and"strengthening the comprehensive nature of appreciation, setting up students'views toward the arts". The second point discusses on how to manifest the humanistic concern over students from three aspects:"choosing curriculum contents from the individual psychology of students and meeting their study needs";"designing teaching contents from the cognitive psychology of students and letting them enjoy the study process";"organizing curriculum contents from students'status and promoting the formation of students'self-consciousness". Part five is conclusion. This part summarizes the characteristics and innovation of this paper and provides suggestions for further study.This paper tries to provide some enlightenment for the art teachers who are engaged in the humanism study through the reflection and summarization of the practical teaching from different aspects. Through creating a humanistic and agreeable circumstance, it also benefits the students, who are pressed so much by the heavy tasks. It guides the students to understand the value of being human and the true meaning of life, cultivating the humanistic spirit and improving humanity qualities of students. This paper provides a new way for the curriculum reforms of art education in middle school and an operating procedure for the realization of"humanities"in the New Curriculum.
