With the globalization of the world economy and frequent international cooperation, English is becoming more and more important in international communication. It is obviously important for students to learn oral English well. This research was based on the data collected from Xinxiang No.10 Middle School when the author has been an internship teacher. The aims of this study are to investigate spoken English production by the students in Xinxiang No.10 Middle School and oral English teaching situation of teachers in Xinxiang No.10 Middle School. For these purposes, some perspectives are used as the theoretical framework for this study.The thesis, first of all, attempts to define EFL learner's oral communicative ability so as to found a framework in which material is involved.In the present paper, the writer plans to explore effective methods to improve students'oral English ability in Xinxiang No.10 Middle School. There are mainly three questions to be presented in this thesis: 1)What are the current situations of oral English learning of the Junior high school students in Xinxiang No.10 Middle School? 2) What are the situations of oral English teaching of the Junior high school English teachers in Xinxiang No.10 Middle School? 3) What are the effective strategies to improve the students'oral English language communicative ability? To answer these questions, the following are to be investigated: 1) The current situation of Grade Eight students in Xinxiang No.10 Middle School. 2) The teachers'oral English level and their education background. 3) What strategies should these teachers choose in order to improve the students'spoken English ability? 4) The implications for the learning and teaching of spoken English in China. Directed by the research objectives above, the process of this paper is specified as following. 1) The author has conducted two months classroom observations and then classified them into some categories. 2) The author has collected materials based on the research questions, interviewed some English teachers in Xinxiang No.10 Middle School. 3) Questionnaires were prepared for both teachers and students, then the author collected data that based on this process. 4) Research efforts will be directed towards making pedagogic implications of the findings, highlighting the students and teachers together to improve the current oral English situation. The major findings are as the following: 1) The oral English current situation of students in Xinxiang No.10 Middle School: the students are short of confidence when communicate with others in English no matter how in class or out of class. Student's learning motivation and attitude of English is not proper. Learning methods are not correct, either. Students seldom take part in English activities. 2) The oral English current situation of teachers'teaching in Xinxiang N0.10 Middle School: the teacher's attitude for teaching oral English is not right. Oral English is not the subject that syllabus needed to test in the end of each new term. So, oral English class time was usually taken up by other subjects, such as, math, Chinese. At second place, teaching methods and teaching style are needed to be improved. The procedures of teaching contents and instructions are not good. The teaching textbook is out of date. 3) On the grounds of the above oral English current situations both of teachers and students, the inquirer proposed strategies as the following:The pedagogical implications are that teachers should design appropriate classroom activities, for instance, pair work, group work and so on. However, instructors also need to learn by heart some principles when teachers design classroom activities. At the same time, students need to input more language materials under the guidance of instructors. Teacher could propose some appropriate topic choice for language learners and give correct guidance for the students and play an appropriate role in oral English language teaching process. In the process of oral English language teaching, teachers need to improve themselves meanwhile create more extracurricular activities for students. So the students practice their oral English not only in class time but also out of class time, but at the same time teachers should communicate with students and pay attention to the student's feedback. Last but not least, school leaders should improve the teaching condition. It is better for students to learn oral English in this way.This thesis develops in 5 chapters. Chapter 1 gives a brief introduction to the initiatives of this study concerning the background, motivations and objectives in this paper. Chapter 2 tackles the fundamental theoretical framework of this paper. Chapter 3 is mainly about the research design. Chapter 4 is about results and discussion of this study.
