Reading is a traditional teaching method with a long history, which accompanies with the birth of ancient education. Reading method plays a very important role in the heritage and development of traditional Chinese culture. With the rise of the vernacular and school educational system changes, the reading method has started to decline. After the 1990s, especially since the new curriculum, with the "Full-time Chinese Courses standard in Compulsory Education (trial version)" and "High school Chinese Curriculum Standards (trial version)" be promulgated, the value of reading has been rediscovered.The standard points out Chinese should be committed to improve the Chinese literacy. Reading is an important way to cultivate Chinese sense, develop reading, writing and oral communication skills, and improve the moral character and aesthetic taste. Reading is more important for ancient poetry teaching, which is well proved for thousands of years of teaching practice. From the perspective of modern Chinese teaching, reading has its scientific rationality. But people have different understanding about the meaning of"read" .And poetry reading teaching status in junior schools can not be optimistic.First, the article analyses the original meaning, history and the nature of reading; second, the article puts forward the importance of Chinese ancient poetry reading teaching in junior schools from three levels. Third, the article explores the status, identifies problems and analyzes the reasons of Chinese ancient poetry reading teaching in junior schools through questionnaires, comparative analysis and other methods. Finally, it makes some suggestions about how to improve the status of the problems of Chinese ancient poetry reading teaching in junior schools.
