Environmental Education In History Teaching In High School

With the development of society, the ecological environment has been seriously polluted and the natural resources immoderately exploited, which in turn affects man's survival and development. So valuing nature and protecting environment to achieve sustainable development has become man's focus of attention. Nowadays, environmental protection is one of our basic state policies. Therefore, popularizing the knowledge of environmental protection among people and cultivating their environmental awareness has become one major task. As for school education, environmental protection is implied in all subjects, among which the subject of history studies the past in order to direct the present and to look forward to the future. With all its advantages, it is supposed to play an important role in cultivating high school students' environmental awareness.By means of survey and interview, the author consults a lot of documents to study the current situation of environmental education in history teaching in high school, then analyses the importance of it in the light of our national conditions, and finally, the author proposes some measures to enhance it on the base of practical experience. For instance, in order to improve students' environmental awareness, teachers are expected to make the best use of teaching hours and teaching materials, to improve their own teaching skills and accomplishments and to change teaching models. Besides, a variety of colorful extra-curricular activities are encouraged, to this end.Practice shows that enhancing environmental education in history teaching in high school not only can popularize environmental protection knowledge among students, strengthen their awareness and ability of environmental protection and set up the view of harmonious coexistence of man and nature, but also can help improve students' abilities in answering questions involving environmental protection and achieve a win-win result in the improvements of environmental education as well as quality of teaching .
