The research of regional differences is an important and old tradition of geography.Throughout history,many great geographers encouraged the research of regional differences.Regional differences are demanded in four parts of《Chinese geography curriculum standards in full-time compulsory education》(for experiment),and it is one of the five themes of regional geography in junior high school,together with regional location,regional characteristics,relation between regions and regional sustainable development.The regional differences are the soil for the development of geographic subject ability.For students,the study of regional differences is useful to the fostering of the ability of analyzing and evaluating regional characteristics,the ability of describing and predicting geographic progress,the ability of analyzing and reasoning the geographic cause-effect relationship.But there are many problems that should be given attention to in real teaching of regional differences.For example,teachers and students don't have a full recognition of the importance of regional differences;students aren't interested in regional differences;the regional differences are easily forgotten for students;teachers don't adopt helpful teaching methods.This paper made a classification of the performances of regional differences firstly,then explored the huge value implied in regional differences for the fostering of geographic subject ability.Finally,in view of the problems in real reaching,the author proposed some reasonable strategies for better teaching.
