In 2016,the 13th International Geography Olympiad(hereinafter referred to as IGEO)was held in Beijing,China,which,undoubtedly,has achieved a great success.What's more,nowadays,an increasing number of teachers and students began to pay attention to this international event.In general,with the flexible test types and abundant content as well as a wide range of coverage,IGEO has become a hot topic in the field of geography education and extensive research.The analysis and research on the IGEO test types and content is beneficial to the improvement of students' geographic ability,as well as provides new direction and inspiration for the geography practice teaching in the high school.Through literature analysis,this paper first analyzes the research progress of IGEO and geography ability at home and abroad,and on the basis of defining the related concepts,this paper summarizes the test types,contents and the geography ability of the 2002-2016 IGEO,and then builds the structure of geographic ability.Besides,this paper investigates and analyzes the situation of the geography subject ability cultivation of some high school students in Xian by the means of questionnaires.Finally,adaptable strategies and cases on the cultivation of geographic subject ability of high school students are put forward and designed so as to achieve a more effective students,geography ability training.The study suggests that:(1)IGEO emphasizes three geographic subject ability.With the main material of pictures,the flexible and diverse test method,a wide range of test content,the IGEO test is quite open and comprehensive and mainly examines students three major geographic abilities:geographic expression ability,geographic thinking ability and geographic practice ability,among which,the geographic thinking ability specifically includes the ability of geographic image thinking ability,geographic spatial thinking ability and geographic logical thinking ability;geographic practice ability specifically includes hands-on production and experimental operation ability,geographic social investigation ability and geographical observation ability.(2)The questionnaire survey finds that students' geographic ability needs to be enhanced and there are some problems in the current cultivation of students' geographic ability:First,the goal of the geographic expression ability is not fully understood.The second one is that the flexibility and diversity of the geographic thinking ability training methods need to be strengthened.Third,the cultivation of geographic practice ability faces many realistic dilemmas.(3)Put forward some teaching strategies on how to cultivate students' geography ability effectively in the process of practical geography teaching:First of all,with reference to the IGEO written test module,the design of geographical expression assignment should be emphasized and the evaluation mechanism should be optimized so as to correct the attitude of students and improve their own geographical expression ability.Secondly,with reference to the IGEO multimedia test module,the geographical images should be used flexibly in order to improve students' geographical thinking ability;and geographic information technology ought to be operated skillfully so as to cultivate students geographical spatial thinking ability;also,in order to cultivate the students' geographical logical thinking ability,students should be taught to learn to use the mind map;In addition,according to the practice system of IGEO field inspection module,the appropriate content theme and the corresponding program steps for the geographical practice activities ought to be selected and constructed so as to further cultivate students geography practice ability under the existing resources and conditions.(4)The adaptable strategies on the teaching cases of geography ability training ought to focus on the application of geography teaching method and means.Through“The changes of the noon sun height angle”and other learning cases design,this paper finally puts forward that the adaptive strategies should highlight the basic knowledge teaching,and optimize the combination of a variety of teaching methods and means so as to cultivate students' geography Academic ability at the same time,and provide some practical cases for the practical geography teaching.
