The Science Course for junior schools in Wuhan has been run for five years, and it has made some significant achievements in such aspects as promoting students' learning enthusiasm in science, enhancing teachers'professional development, stimulating the integration of course resources, and improving the student's academic evaluation. However, in January,2009, Wuhan Education Bureau made a decision that the junior schools should put an end to the Science Course and return to the original course division system. What on earth are the obstacles for the running of the Science Course and what are the ultimate reasons behind it? After four months of investigation, we discovered some factors and drew the following conclusions:1.Most science teachers have the disciplines background in Physics and Chemistry, while according to the investigation,20.9% of them don't even have any related disciplines background.2.A majority of science teachers can't adapt to the in-class teaching.3.More science teachers are not satisfied with the course book, thinking that the knowledge system, the structure and even the content don't fit in with students' psychological state and cognitive ability.4.There are no update to experiment equipment and facilities, for instance, there is no sufficient scientific equipment for experiments.5.Considering the fact that except Wuhan, all the other cities and regions in Hubei Province adopt course division system, both the parents and teachers are worried about the unfavorable situation in the entrance examination for the future high school students.6.The public has also had low opinion about the Science Course.7.The State has reduced the number of experimental zones for the Science Course, which also makes negative contribution.
