This article is based on the theory of functionism and social change.On this basis, we devise the changes of marriage customs in chinese rural society.This article was divided two stages to investigate female dowry, and describes the dowry Species at different times, then analysis the dowry's source and functions.we also describe a series of changes of marriage customs, then explore the change's reason. The form of the dowry payment underwent great changes which only had wage in the dowry payment met to cash. With the development of society, the cash in dowry payment come into fashion. The source of the dowry also had great variance which is embodied in the rise of the bride-price that is a great inducement to make the dowry cost increase. Concurrently, the dowry's application field gradually expands with the grow in number. this process experienced from meeting the family demands to satisfying the demands of social development.The change of marriage customs have multiple causes, both society and family. The economy is one such cause. we deduce the conclusion which is that various factors interplay, all this has constructed a complex environment for dowry payment. As a result of these factors,the dowry payment constantly changed.Finally, the author deduce the basic conclusion which is that the dowry payment goes up in recent years, this situation will lie hard upon on farmer family and do harm to social morality. All the features not only confirm the marriage customs' change event but also influence the people's rural life.
