Since the new basic education curriculum reform wish the students to get further developments in this curriculum reform has been carried out, the questions of how to take the advantage of the teaching materials and how to express the ideas of new curriculum in the class are hot in the research. As an important component of textbook, image system plays an important role in carrying and expressing the idea of new curriculum.This paper researches the image system in People's Education Press edition of the New Curriculum Standard teaching materials of biology in senior middle school, through which to find out the advantages of the image system and the strategy of the application in systemic ways. First, this paper researches the image system in conception, type, especially in function and the factors which would affect its function. Then research the advantage of image system and get the conclusion that the image system is designed so well that could express the ideas of the new curriculum and could help the reform work out. In the same time, this paper finds out some mistakes of the application of the image system through questionnaires and interview, and the mistakes include wrong understanding and wrong application. Then the paper makes some suggestion about application: use the image system to make a knowledge system, to develop students'ability, to give students'right feeling and attitude, and optimize teaching through changing the images, using images with others teaching element, choosing right time and way to show the images. At last, the paper gives some suggestion to teacher: learn and understand the standard, teach in different way and improve them.
