For middle school teaching plan, mathematics, Chinese philology and foreign language are always treated as the"three main courses", so Chinese philology is always a basis subject. And Chinese philology course functions as a bridge and base to other subjects. As the mother tongue, one of the main tasks for Chinese teaching is to let the student know and inherit the traditional Chinese culture. Additionally, according to the definition from"modern Chinese dictionary","philology"means"language and writing", and"language and literature". Therefore, like literature, philology is also featured with humanism. Obviously, humanism education is a must during the process of studying Chinese. However, doubts and criticism are never ended for Chinese philology teaching. The effect of real Chinese philology teaching is restricted by exam-oriented concepts, and many other problems appeared in front-line teaching, which are out of many theoretical researchers'expectation. This research is based on the front-line practice of Chinese teaching and discusses the functions of Chinese teaching by the way of theoretical analysis and practice exploration. And we expect that this study may offer some favors for Chinese teaching workers and solve the problems of the educational function of Chinese philology course from both theoretical and practice aspects. This paper contains following parts:Introduction part briefly introduces the background, aims, meaning and creation of this paper.Chapter one analyzes the problems in Chinese philology teaching in middle school. This paper narrates some problems and contradictions that we meet in junior middle school and senior middle school, which come from many aspects, such as school, teachers, students, family, society and so on. All the materials derive from participation and survey of Chinese teaching in reality. Based on our analysis of survey, we find that the students are not satisfied with the Chinese philology teaching.Chapter two states the theory of educational function of Chinese course. This chapter summarizes the opinions about the nature and function of Chinese philology course. We explain the characteristics of Chinese course from the perspectives of the nature and educational function's connotation and structure.Chapter three gives a specific statement about the value and function of Chinese teaching from reality.Chapter four provides the solution to the problems. According to the found shortages, this chapter gives specific suggestions and strategies; meanwhile, we take the experience native language teaching in foreign countries to deal with the function of Chinese philology teaching from perspectives of individual, school and society.
