The Application Of Task-based Teaching In Teaching Junior English Reading

In the context of Communicative Language Teaching, more attention is given to students than teachers. The English class becomes student-centered. The objective of English teaching is not only to improve students'understanding of the language but also to raise their ability in using the language, for example, the comprehension of English reading, according to the New English Curriculum Standard. For raising the students'reading efficiency, English teachers have to change their teaching methods.This paper is a study of the application of task-based language teaching (TBLT) of junior English reading for three purposes:firstly, to arouse students'interest in reading and secondly to explore some practical and effective approaches to improve the present situation in the junior English teaching of reading. Besides, the research is to test and verify the possibility of applying TBLT in junior English reading class and provide implications for using TBLT in junior English classes.The author tries to explore the implementation/fulfillment of task-based language teaching in English reading class in a junior school, particularly the definition of task based reading, reading task design and the framework and teaching procedure of a task-based reading class. The advantages and disadvantages of TBLT in junior English reading class are discussed and some suggestions about the application of TBLT are put forward. The result of the study shows that TBLT makes English reading classes more active than the traditional ones. It motivates students well and fosters the students'comprehensive abilities to use the target language correctly and fluently. Although there are some disadvantages and limitations, it is feasible to apply TBLT in junior English reading classes if teachers design their lessons rationally and properly.
