Adult attachment refers to"an individual's sustained, long-lasting emotional connection with his or her present companion", Coping styles have been defined as"an individual's adopting a variety of coping strategies in order to alleviate his or her psychological pressure", and interpersonal communication means"a process in which by a certain degree of interpersonal contact, people, psychologically or behaviorally, have mutual interaction and influence on each other". It is noted that previous studies have confirmed that an individual's styles of adult attachment could affect his or her coping styles and interpersonal relationships, and that choices of coping styles will also affect their interpersonal relationships, yet there has rare research that is pertinent to the relationship between the three. This study aims to make a thorough inquiry of the relationship between adult attachment, coping styles and interpersonal relations and to inspect whether coping styles play an intermediary role in adult attachment and interpersonal communication. This study is implemented under the"Experience in Close Relationships Inventory","Interpersonal Comprehensive Diagnostic Scale"and"Problem-Focused Style of Coping Scale". Subjects, with a total of 318, are graduate students of the first, second and third grade mainly selected from Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Nanjing University of Finance and Economics, Nanjing Normal University. The test data has been preliminary processed by SPSS16.0 and then analyzed by using software of Analysis of Moment Structures (AMOS16.0) for structural equation modeling analysis, the results are as follows:(1) Graduate students of fear attachment account for the highest proportion (38.4%), followed by a security type (25.8%), Preoccupied (18.6%), Dismissive (17.3%).(2) Graduate students in adult attachment anxiety dimension score higher than those in the attachment avoidance dimension, i. e, graduate students have a stronger fear of being possibly forsaken, and in the dimension of attachment avoidance, boys score significantly higher than girls.(3) Individuals of attachment anxiety face interpersonal problems and at the same time they adopt coping styles of suppression and reaction, while individuals of attachment avoidance are inclined to adopt a coping style of suppression.(4) Different graduate students of different types of attachment face notable degrees of interpersonal problems: fear-type > preoccupation-type > Dismissive -type > security-type.(5) Graduate students of adult attachment orientation are positively correlated with their interpersonal distress, and attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance are significant predictors of interpersonal problems.(6) Coping styles of suppression and reaction are partial mediators between the adult attachment anxiety and their interpersonal problems; coping styles of poor problems are full mediators between adult attachment avoidance and interpersonal problems; attachment of the two dimensions could account for 15% of coping styles of suppression and reaction, while attachment avoidance and attachment anxiety and coping styles could account for 48% of the interpersonal problems.
