Teaching ability, as an important factor to affect middle school English teaching quality, has attracted great attention of many researchers from both home and abroad. It is high time to explore the question:What is the situation of teaching ability of English teachers in rural middle schools of Guanzhong? What causes their teaching ability lower? How to train and improve their teaching ability? In recent years, many experts and scholars have done a series of researches on teaching ability, but there is little research on teaching ability of English teachers in rural middle schools of Guanzhong.Through rural middle school English teachers'teaching ability research, the author studies actual situation of English teachers in rural middle schools, analyzes the reasons to cause their teaching ability lower, and proposes effective measures to improve their teaching ability and English teaching quality.The author chooses 247 English teachers from 46 rural middle schools of Guanzhong to collect data, uses tables and graphs and SPSS(15.0) soft ware to analyze the results. The author mainly uses qualitative and quantitative research methods, contrast and comparison method.The author finds the situation of English teachers in rural middle schools of Guanzhong is that English teachers with lower certificates are uneven distribution and young. The situation of their teaching ability is lower than national requirements for middle school English teachers, especially, their ability to use English and modern educational technology is poorer. The reasons to cause English teachers'teaching ability lower are hard teaching tasks, longer working hours, school leaders' ignorance, college education, deficiency of money, etc.The author puts forward implications and suggestions to improve teaching ability of English teachers in rural middle schools and English teachers' teaching ability training.
