The construction of a life-long learning system requires mutual communication and integration of various forms of education,the combination between self-taught examination and community education is an important practice to build an overpass of life-long learning. As the basic form of open-higher education in our country, self-study examination system has made great contributions to the cause of higher education for three decades. With the implementation of the Mass Higher Education in China, the formation of Public and Private Colleges, self-taught examination is faced with unprecedented challenge. Only reform and innovation, which can enhance the vigor and vitality of self-examination. The immediate concern is to keep in step with the times and take the life-long learning as a new opportunity to find a growth point. In the meantime, the effective combination of self-taught examination and community education can provide better services to the public and promote the building of life-long learning system and learning-oriented society.Apart from the introduction and conclusion, the main text is divided into three parts. The first part mainly has expounded the core conception of life-long learning,self-taught examination and community education. Meanwhile, the author discusses the rationale of the dissertation—life-long learning theory and learning society theory. The seeond part analyzes the necessity and possibility about combination of self-taught examination and community education, then expounds the difficulties and obstacles during this process. The combination of self-examination and community education,which is not only the requirement of life-long learning theory but also the development of the educational system themselves. Moreover,it is the base of their combination that the similarity between the goal of talents cultivation and the essential characteristics.At present,we also cannot ignore the difficulties and obstacles in the combining process, such as the management system is not ordered, educational resources is not co-ordinated, professional courses is not perfect, service support system is not comprehensive. Finally,the thesis tries to propos a series of strategic choices and suggestions that can work for the combination of self-taught examination and community education. The first one is to reform the management system. The second one is to co-ordinate educational resources. The third one is to optimize the structure of professional courses. The fourth one is to gradually improve the service support system.In the current era background, the combination between self-examination and community education is one of the important indexes of life-long learning, an important way of self-examination system innovation and the healthy development of community education, meanwhile, is also the main content in building a life-long learning system and learning society.
